Camera Cord Tethering

Here’s a Quick FX trick for tethering cords and protecting the plugs on your camera and other expensive filmmaking gear.

Creating a slipknot with your rubber band you can wrap around the cord and then secure the band to a fixed spot on your camera or tripod. Give slack to your cord so you it will have some ‘give’ if pulled, this will alert you that the cord is being stressed.

There are more “professional” options like the Tether Tools JerkStopper Tethering Kit with USB Mount but unlike the Quick FX rubber band trick, there’s no flexing in the tethering cord.

Tether Tools offers a few other options and they seem pretty legit, but I still like the QFX rubber band setup. Quick and simple.

The rubber band tether technique can also worth with your lights and just about anything else with a cord! The video light in the above image a light from the LimoStudio 600W Day Lighting Kit.
